Free Kindy

Kindergarten approved program

Kindergarten Program at Skippy’s Early Learning
Skippy’s Early Learning offers a Queensland Government–approved Kindergarten program, providing 15 hours per week of Free Kindy for eligible children in the year before they commence Prep.
Our Kindergarten program is delivered by a qualified Early Childhood Teacher and is guided by the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG), supporting children’s learning, wellbeing, and development through a play-based, child-centred approach.
Alongside the QKLG, our program incorporates our own School Readiness focus, designed to support children’s confidence, independence, and foundational skills as they prepare for school.
Write2Spell2Read Program
As part of our Kindergarten curriculum, we incorporate the Write2Spell2Read program, authored by Sam Woods, a Rockhampton-based Occupational Therapist and Certified Neurodevelopment Therapist.
Write2Spell2Read is a multi-sensory, play-based literacy program that supports children to develop early skills in writing, spelling, reading, comprehension, and fluency. The program uses engaging strategies such as pictures that reflect letter shapes, sounds, and starting letters, helping children build strong foundations for literacy in a way that is inclusive and responsive to different learning styles.
Kindergarten Hours & Wrap-Around Care
Our Kindergarten program operates between 8:30am and 4:30pm, with the Queensland Government funding applied to 15 hours per week of approved Kindergarten learning.
As Skippy’s is also a long day care service, we offer wrap-around care for families who require care outside Kindergarten hours. Children enrolled in our Kindergarten program may attend:
-
6:30am – 8:30am (before Kindy)
-
4:30pm – 6:30pm (after Kindy)
Additional hours outside the funded Kindergarten program form part of our long day care service and may attract fees, which may be eligible for the Child Care Subsidy (CCS), depending on family circumstances.

Three Day Guarantee
Exciting news for families! From 2026, eligible children in the year before Prep will have access to Free Kindy for 3 full days per week through the Queensland Government’s 3-Day Guarantee.
At Skippy’s Early Learning, we will support families to make the most of this initiative, while continuing to deliver high-quality, play-based learning led by our qualified Early Childhood Teachers.
Here’s what it means for families:
-
Children can attend up to 3 full days of Free Kindy per week.
-
Families can choose how these days are scheduled (subject to availability at the centre).
-
Wrap-around care is available outside funded Kindy hours, within our long day care service.
This new program ensures children have more time to explore, learn, and grow, giving them a strong foundation as they get ready for Prep.
